Submission of Abstracts
The
deadline for the receipt of contributed paper abstracts is for them to
be in the office of our Program Chairman no later than Friday, 1
September 1995. The Program Chairman is: Dr. Edward G. Bilpuch,
Department of Physics, Duke University, Science Drive, Durham, NC
27708. The entire program will be organized the following day to
be transmitted to the publisher. All abstracts received by the
deadline will be published in their entirety in the November 1995
BULLETIN of the AMERICAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY. Authors of abstracts
failing to meet the deadline will be notified of the late receipt. AN
ABSTRACT FEE OF $20/ABSTRACT should accompany the submitted abstracts.
All abstracts of contributed papers must be furnished in QUADRUPLICATE
(4 copies) and must be prepared in the standard APS format as specified
in recent issues of the APS NEWS. No acknowledgment of receipt for
your abstract is normally sent. If you wish an acknowledgment, send a
stamped self addressed post card requesting this information with your
abstract and check. Likewise, the scheduled time for your presentation
must be obtained from the BULLETIN; if you wish this information prior
to the BULLETIN, please include a stamped self addressed postcard
requesting the time and date.
AN INNOVATION IN CONTRIBUTED PAPERS
HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR THIS MEETING! Invited papers at this meeting, as
at all APS meetings, are given by experts in areas selected by the
Program Committee and these talks are usually of 30 minutes duration.
Contributed papers, however, are on topics of the author's choice and
ten minutes in length. On the day following the abstract deadline, all
papers are organized into sessions and the sessions into the program of
the meeting. This year the Program Committee will try an idea
suggested by an APS member. Some of the contributed abstracts are such
that the Committee will INVITE THE AUTHORS to give a SPECIAL INVITED
PAPER of 20 minutes duration on the topic of their abstract at the
beginning of the contributed paper session to which their talk is
assigned. There will only be a few such papers selected. The
invitation would be shown in the printed program of the meeting. If
the author(s) would like to be considered for such an invitation, they
are asked to type the fo
If invited to do so, the author is
willing to expand the talk for the above abstract to a 20 minute talk.
These invitations will be verified promptly by mail.
LATE
ABSTRACTS: We realized that the deadline for papers is early but this
is necessary if abstracts are to be published and readily available to
the members prior to the meeting. If you cannot meet the deadline but
still wish to present an abstract, send it to the Program Chairman
before November 1 for inclusion as a Post Deadline presentation so that
it can be incorporated into the appropriate session and listed on the
bulletin board at the meeting. These abstracts must also be
accompanied by the $20 abstract fee.
