Session O8 - Molecular Clusters: From Dimers to the Condensed Phase III.
MIXED session, Thursday afternoon, March 20
Room 4202B, Conv. Center
Molecular clusters consisting of a single aromatic molecule (benzene or styrene) and several polar molecules (acetonitrile, methanol, water) have been studied by resonant Two-Photon Ionization. The spectral shifts are related to the extent of the dipole - induced dipole interaction between the solvent and solute molecules. Ab initio and Monte Carlo calculations have been used to study the spectral properties of these clusters. The results are compared with other calculations of the neat solvent clusters. We will also address the intracluster proton transfer reactions that take place following the ionization of the aromatic (solvent)_N neutral clusters to generate the protonated solvent clusters H^+(solvent)_N.
