Session CE - Condensed Matter Physics.
MIXED session, Saturday morning, November 02
Room 222, Morton Hall
We have measured the vibrational spectrum by time-of-flight inelastic neutron scattering from a powder sample of K_1C_60 in the orthorhombic phase. A band of vibrations between 10 and 25 meV is observed which is not present in pure C_60 molecules and which is consistent with a stronger link between C_60 molecules than in the pure case. Neutron diffraction measurements on the same sample in this phase resemble published X-ray diffraction results so far as they can be compared, but disagree with the model refined from those measurements.
