[M16.12] Searching for a Conformal Field Theory of the Plateau Transition

J. Kondev, J.B. Marston (Physics Department, Brown University, Providence, RI 02912-1843)

The Chalker--Coddington network model of the integer quantum Hall effect can be mapped to an SU(2N) antiferromagnetic quantum spin chain in the self-conjugate representation, where the plateau transition is identified with the dimerization transition of the spin chain in the N\rightarrow0 limit.(D-H Lee, Phys. Rev. B 50), 10788 (1994). Following a recently introduced space-time approach to quantum spin chains,(M. Aizenman and B. Nachtergaele, Commun. Math. Phys. 164), 17 (1994). we propose a conformally invariant bosonic action for the SU(2N) spin chain in the fundamental representation, for 0 Part M of program listing
