MINUTES OF THE 1993 FALL MEETING OF THE OHIO SECTION OF
THE AMERICAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY
15-16 October 1993; University Heights, Ohio

GENERAL INFORMATION

The 1993 Fall meeting of the Ohio Section of The American Physical Society was held on the campus of John Carroll University, University Heights, OH, 15-16 October, 1993. This was a joint meeting of the Ohio Section and the Ohio Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers.

The symposium topic for this meeting of the Ohio Section was Nanoscale Physics. At the opening session on Friday afternoon, Professor Stephen Garoff, Carnegie-Mellon, presented an invited paper entitled "Microstructure in Precursing Fluid Films," and Professor Ronald Reifenberger, Purdue University, presented an invited paper entitled "A Study of Individual Nanometer-Size Metallic Clusters Using Atomic Force Microscopy." A banquet was held Friday evening, after which Richard Heckathorn, Midpark High School (retired), spoke on "After Dinner Science."

At the Saturday morning session, held at the Bohannon Science Center, there were two invited papers. Professor Sara Majetich, Carnegie-Mellon, discussed "Size-dependent Nanocrystallite Properties," and Dr. Leonid Turkevich, Kimberly-Clark Corp., discussed "Investigations on the Thermodynamic Origins of Microemulsions."

In addition to this, there were 49 contributed papers, 40 of which are to be published in the Bulletin. Total registered attendance for the meeting was 100, with 95 attending the banquet. The registrants included 8 retired members and 35 students.

Future meetings of the Ohio Section are scheduled for the following locations:
Fall, 1994 - University of Toledo
Spring, 1995 - Youngstown State University
Fall, 1995 - University of Dayton/Air Force Institute of Technology
The Ohio Section of The American Physical Society extends a special invitation to all APS members in Ohio and adjacent states to join us at any of our meetings.
