[BO1.003] Proton and electron propagation during short pulse laser plasma interactions

Eugene Clark (AWE plc, Aldermaston, Reading RG7 4PR, UK), Mingsheng Wei, Farhat Beg, Bucker Dangor, Karl Krushelnick (Blackett Laboratory, Imperial College, London, UK), Paul McKenna, Iain Spencer, Thomas McCanny, Kenneth Ledingham (Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, UK), Kate Lancaster (RAL, Chilton, Didcot, Oxon, UK)

The effect of target geometry on the propagation of electrons and protons is investigated. The experiments were performed using the VULCAN laser at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. Optical emission diagnostics of the interaction suggest that the target shape influences the electron and proton propagation. The data is compared to electron beam propagation codes.
