A computer-based tutorial on charged-particle optics is presently under development, started with Phase I funding from the DOE SBIR program. The tutorial uses multimedia, i.e., it integrates screen text, line drawings, photographs, animation, movies, and sound. For development we use the HyperSense authoring tool, similar to HyperCard, but for the NeXTSTEP Operating System. When completed, the tutorial will be ported to Macintosh and Windows platforms. The material presentation allows for a great deal of interactivity on the part of the student at various parts of the presentation. Our experiences with this development project will be outlined, and sample screens will be shown.
