The structure and properties of defects and impurities in the vicinity of the GaAs(110) surface are investigated. We have examined the bonding geometries and dynamics of a variety of defect configurations including As and Ga vacancies. Vibrational states ofimpurity related structures involving nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen atoms are also calculated. The symmetry, localization, and effects of relaxation will be discussed. Our results here accord well with a variety of experimental data.
