[A21.08] The Role of Initial Conditions and the Effect of Spatially Non-Uniform Pinning on Phase Organization

Xinlei Wu, Tom Jones, John McCarten (Clemson University)

We find that the Classical Deformable Medium Model does not phase organize to a series of repetitive driving pulses in the strong pinning limit, if the pinning strength is spatially uniform, and the initial conditions are a metastable configuration near the ground state. This ground state paradox does not occur if the pinning is spatially non-uniform. We will discuss the uniform and non-uniform cases in terms of flows in meta-stable phase space, and how the characteristic time-scales involved in the problem change if the uniformity of the pinning strength is varied.
