[Q09.14] A Dislocation Model of a Thilt Grain Boundary in YBa _2 Cu _3 O _7

The strain field associated with grain boundary dislocations and its effect on the electronic properties are calculated for a tilt-boundary in YBa _2 Cu _3 O _7 . Using the relationship between hole density and elastic strain calculated from a shell model description of the interaction potential, we found that the area of the hole-rich region near the boundary decreases with increasing boundary mismatch angle. The effective area of the superconducting region is calculated and its effect on the critical current density at the boundary is discussed.
